Everyone followed the call of the disco ball and enjoyed a world of dancing at Kuda Huraa, fuelled by 17 toe-tapping theme nights and dance-inspired dinners, from boogie to ballet, hula to hip-hop.
Festivities kicked off on 21 December with a ‘So you think you can Bodu Beru…?’ drumming celebration, complete with traditional Maldivian dancing, before belly-shaking eastwards on the 22 December for ‘Arabian Nights’ flavours from shawarmas to baklavas.
Christmas à la Mamma Mia brought Winter Wonderland, paellas and Dancing Queens & Island Dreams celebrations set to the music of Abba, while 2018 ended with A Broadway New Year’s Eve Spectacular, featuring Moulin Rouge, Chicago and Phantom of the Opera-inspired cabaret dancing and a jaw-dropping firework display.
From the unexpected energy of flash mobs at the festive Pool Party to chilled-out Café del Kuda lounging via a tribute evening to Saturday Night Fever, the tempo and timing was always on point.
Hip-twisting hula hoop competitions kept everyone fit; our Dive Centre team took the festivities below the waves to plant an underwater coral Christmas tree; and Santa took a surfing lay-day following his grand entrance on 25 December.
Over at Landaa, a fleet of dhonis docked island-side bringing The Landies’ Seafaring Circus and a season of high-energy, hilarity and hocus-pocus. Things got off to a spirited start with Bohemian cocktails, Christmas carols with the clowns and the first Santa ever to arrive on an ‘underwater sleigh’ … and the festive fun only escalated!
Guests were treated to Satays, Canton Roasted Duck and Wok Street food specials at ‘Illuminasia’; Sushi & Sashimi Bar paired with ‘Saketini’ tasting at ‘Samurais of the Sea’; ‘black and white diamond’ gourmet delights at ‘The Great Truffloudini’, hosted at the brand new Blu Beach Club restaurant, and legendary Goan Vindaloo and Cafreal curries at the ‘Goa Full Moon Rave’.
The magic, mischief and marvelousness reached a Big Top high at ‘The Greatest Show on Earth’ where magicians, acrobats, clowns, clairvoyants, fire-dancers, jugglers and dancers brought the magic of the circus alive for a night to remember.
