From Kuda Huraa’s Lost Temple of Kudak to Landaa’s Havana-meets-Kingston extravaganza, Festive 2017 was sensational from start to finish.
Festivities commenced on December 23 with our wonderful crew of festive bodu beru drummers, a touching shared moment of everyone lighting one another’s candles, and the distribution of small gifts to all the children. More gifts followed on December 25 thanks to Santa, who arrived in the grandest fashion at Kids’ Club held aloft on a platform by our muscular security team!
Theme nights spanned from the pretty atmospheric garment, souvenir and food stalls of the Khan El Khalili Bazaar to the beautiful stylish sophistication of The Prophecy of the Lobster Dinner, decorated with thousands of sparkling lights. December 26 saw Sunset Lounge and its adjacent beach transformed by ornate carpets, beautiful Arabic décor, tables in the sand, live band and a great selection of cooking stations. But the undisputed star of the celebrations was the December 31 Lost Temple of Kudak extravaganza: a decadent event that began with a parade of Cleopatra and Pharaohs walking the entire island and ended with a spectacular firework display lasting more than 10 minutes. Guests embraced the treasure map game in place throughout the festive period, solving clues and collecting stickers at each event in return for great prizes. Many congratulations to our ‘Resort Stay’ winners – and many thanks to all our staff and entertainers for a fantastic fortnight of fun.
Over at Landaa, the pineapple-themed Havana-meets-Kingston celebrations kicked off in style on December 24 with the Christmas Tropicana; a festive fiesta topped by an incredible performance by flute wonder-teen, Suleiman, and the arrival of Santa … clad in an amazing red watermelon suit, atop a classic Cuban-style car! His arrival on December 25 was no less impressive – was it a tricycle, raft, boat or all three? Watch here to see for yourself!
Guests had great fun joining the Roggiefarian musicians on December 29 for a smokin’ hot Beach Reggae Party showcasing the very best of community feasting and fun on Blu Beach. Seven beach shacks cooked up mouth-watering Caribbean classics and the Marley-esque beats of our live band, Legend, completed the ‘one love’ Jamaican Jammin’ vibe. It was a great run up to New Year, followed on December 30 by the legendary Great Pineapple Pool Party packed with inflatable toys, water gun wars, mermaids and crazy pool slides before the long-awaited highlight of December 31: guests ambled down Havana’s bustling main street, sipping cocktails along the way, before entering a magical light garden followed by the main party venue – through a huge pineapple doorway.
Huge thanks to all our entertainers, as well as the Cigarollo members, Roggiefarians, Las Espadrilles, Buffalo Soldiers, Bici-taxi drivers and everyone who helped us party in Reggae style this Christmas and New Year! We look forward to more crazy shenanigans next year – be sure to join us!
