This festive season, it’s all about the music! Below you’ll find some of the melodic maestros and eclectic entertainers who’ll be descending on the island to help us pull out all the stops and make it our best Christmas and New Year yet.
Maldivian rock legend Mohamed Majid, better known as Mezzo is one of the Maldives most successful – and longest running – music icons. Ever popular, and with four albums under his belt, he’s performed at numerous prestigious national events, entertaining with his original and cutting-edge sound.
Roger Davy (Tenor)
As a boy soprano, Roger was destined for performance greatness: he went on to join Opera Australia, was the driving force behind the highly-successful ‘Ten Tenors’, and is the face of Vavachi Entertainment. He continues to wow audiences with his solo performances while carving out a successful career as a film and TV actor.
Simone Nicole (Soprano)
Multi-award winning Simone personifies Musical Entertainment: from international shows as iconic as Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady and Chicago, to Operetta in four languages and a world tour. Did we mention she was once also a soloist ballerina with a European ballet company?!
A quartet with an Asian twist: performing eastern genres with western instruments. Famed for reintroducing the ravanahatha (lost ancient musical instrument) to Sri Lanka, Dinesh – and his friends – will have you transfixed with everything from Baroque to Bollywood, Classical to Celtic and authentic Sri Lankan tunes.
Vishal & Gianscore
Iconic in Male’s underground rock scene, Gianscore have been enthralling Maldivian music fans for over 15 years with their original indie/blues-rock combo inspired by the likes of Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. Winners of Male’s recent Battle of the Bands, they are themselves legendary performers with a diehard following. Get ready to rock!
This Sri Lankan band entrances with its vocal harmonies backed by completely acoustic (unplugged) guitar and percussion. Their diverse repertoire covers folk, country, slow rock, and retro music genres, encompassing classic tributes to the likes of Simon & Garfunkel, John Denver, Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley and Neil Diamond.
The Opus String Quartet
With virtuoso violinist, Ananda Dabara, at the helm – together with Sulara on second violin, Thivanthi on viola and Saranga on cello – The Opus String Quartet has been delighting audiences since 2008. Their Landaa festive set includes Mozart and Vivaldi alongside a few cool, contemporary compositions.
Formed at Landaa in 2011, The Baa Atoll Drummers are our homegrown heroes! With several national and local competitions under their belts, they’re beginning to make their mark and we couldn’t be more proud. Listen out for ‘Reethi Raajje’ (Beautiful Maldives) composed by Liyushad, Ibthisam and Husny. It doesn’t get more authentically Landaa than this!
Folk-style flutist, Madushanka Lakmal, hails from southern Sri Lanka and has long mesmerised audiences with his wind-like melodies that waft, whisper and whistle. He’s renowned for traditional drama pieces, folk festival compositions and Bollywood music, but above all, for his enchanting elevated palm tree position!
DJ NICK is one of the most recognisable faces in the Malaysian event industry. Renowned for his versatile play lists, he’s been wowing crowds for over two decades; spinning across every genre from Hip Hop to Soul, R&B to Funk and Latin to House – and everything in between! Highly sought after, he’s ours this festive season. Bring on the beats!
Our very own DJ Nisbah hails from South Maldives: working in our F&B department by day, and spinning as a self-taught DJ by night. Inspired by Malaysian Electro DJ, Bryan Burger, DJ Nisbah is a regular mixer at staff dos, private guest gatherings, cocktail nights and island weddings. Here at Landaa, we know how to party!
